When looks can be deceiving Wandering around the cul-de-sac you could be forgiven for thinking that the small exterior of 24 Wheatlands Road leads to a dormer bungalow. But from the moment you walk through the door you will discover a Tardis-like property that offers you a wealth of space and possibilities, making it a unique family home.
Built in 2008 by a builder for his family, it was to become their dream home. But, once finished, circumstances changed and the property became the happy home of its current owner. "It was the space, the unusual layout and the fact it wasn't really overlooked that sold it to us, " he told us.
Location location "We used to live in the countryside and it was fairly noisy for a number of reasons. As the house is on a cul-de-sac there's not a lot of passing traffic or pedestrian."
Being wonderfully located close to town, it's still only a 5-minute walk to the countryside. Also in walking distance are four good schools, one highly renowned in Burton-on-Trent. You also have good amenities, with local shops and eateries close by. The location is ideal for getting out and about with easy access to main roads as well as the M42.
Accommodation With the entrance being on a hillside you enter on the upper level, which is the bedroom floor. There you will find three double bedrooms, one of which is en-suite, together with a family bathroom. The top floor has a very large double bedroom with en-suite, a kitchen and storage, making it a flexible space. This top floor was one of the key selling points for the owners.
"We had an au pair when we first moved in, and this gave her her own little flat that's basically self-contained. My nephew has lived up there for a while, too."
Downstairs you enter a vast living space opening onto a fairly secluded garden. It's downstairs that really wows all who visit. With a great flow from the kitchen/diner to the lounge and into the garden, it's no wonder that this where the family spend most of their time. The owner tells me the kitchen is his favourite room, mainly as he enjoys cooking.
"It does also tend to be where people congregate and where the kids do their homework."
"The lounge is where we relax; having a wood burning stove makes it really cosy in the winter." On from the lounge is the garden room. At the moment it houses a pool table but it would make a beautiful conservatory, playroom, or even an office, and with patio doors leading directly onto the garden patio, it has a lovely outlook.
Also downstairs is the snug. With its own entrance, this would again be an ideal room for those who work from home and need to receive clients, perhaps music teachers or even beauty therapists. Just outside the snug is a cloak room, again making it an ideal space for those working from home. The owners use it as a games room, meaning when friends are around, they have a private space to play away from the main part of the house.
Behind the kitchen you will find an extensive utility, full of storage. "There's a large airing cupboard next to the boiler, perfect for drying clothes. You can just hang your clothes in there and forget about them. The utility is the size of a normal kitchen the only thing it's missing is the cooker!"
If this is not enough storage for you, then you will be pleased to know you also have a large storage cupboard at the rear. "I load all of our camping gear in the back storage cupboard it's that big. It provides storage away from the garage for storing everything from camping, to fishing, to riding. Thus, you can keep your stuff out of the garage and save the double garage for your cars."
outside Yes, this house also benefits from a double garage and like most people the garage isn't used for cars but for his hobby, renovating motor bikes. The garage can also be accessed from the hallway giving it the potential to be converted into a home gym or additional rooms should you really need them.
"The south facing garden is a suntrap, it's one of those gardens that is a great space for entertaining. At one time there was a vegetable patch which can easily be reinstated. Beyond the patio is a lawned area, big enough for the kids to play football. We also have a rockery with a fountain which is lovely in the summer, you can sit out and relax with the sound of running water."
should I view? Don't let this property fool you, if you're are looking for space you will not be disappointed at all. Allow us to take you though it's misleading façade and into a unique and extremely special home for you and your family to enjoy for many years to come.
