A superb two bedroom, two reception room terraced mid Victorian cottage with garden in the thriving village of Bitton, 5.8 miles from Georgian Bath and 8 miles from vibrant Bristol.
“This location was perfect for us. My partner works in Bristol and I am from Cornwall. We were initially looking in the centre of Bristol, but I realised that Bitton was a perfect medium, with a real countryside feel but very quick access into two busy cities. We could work in the city but come home quickly to country living. From the front our house looks like a cute cottage, yet when you go in there is a lovely feeling of space. Most of the house has been recently decorated with Farrow & Ball paint. Although the house is on the road there is triple glazing, so you do not hear it at all. The sitting room has solid oak flooring and we have painted it a rich teal, so it feels sumptuous and elegant. We have used House of Hackney wallpaper on a feature wall over the chimney breast. We have an open fireplace and built-in shelving and cupboards in the alcoves which give plenty of storage. The shelf sweeps round so that the television is viewable but does not dominate the room, we use one of the cupboards as a media unit so that the DVD player etc are hidden.”
“The dining room has a period door with stained glass and the same oak floor that is in the sitting room. It is painted a dark grey, so it looks stylish for dinner parties and drinks with friends, and there is shelving and storage in an alcove along with an inbuilt radiator cover. From here you step up into the kitchen which is an L shape. One wall is exposed stone. The floor has slate effect tiles, there are solid wood work tops and a 1.5 with draining board porcelain sink. There are french doors and a large window overlooking the garden which gets the sun most of the day, so it is a lovely bright space.”
“In the garden we have a patio which the kitchen opens out onto. There are two raised beds which are pebbled and filled with ornaments and potted plants. There is a staircase up the middle to the lawn with a short wall and a flower bed. It is a lovely space for alfresco lunches, barbeques and drinks with friends.”
“Upstairs the master bedroom is my favourite room. It has very high ceilings and a Velux roof light, so it is a very bright room which emphasises the black walls. There is engineered wood flooring and triple glazing here, so road noise is not an issue. As it is upstairs you barely see the road, just a lovely view over gardens and trees. Opposite the master is a second bedroom, with king size bed, a large chest of drawers and a floor to ceiling built in cupboard. The bathroom was renovated in June, there is a waterfall shower over the bath with a secondary attachment for steam and mist. The bathroom has floor to ceiling tiles and the bath is tiled over as well, so there is a very luxurious and unifying feel. The window overlooks the garden and the room feels like a real sanctuary. There is a modern feel to the bathroom, but we have incorporated a traditional towel rail which is a nice feature in the room and suits the house.”
“Bitton has a brilliant community feel. Good pubs are nearby in Swineford and Upton Cheyney. The village is very convenient for supermarket shopping: Waitrose is in Keynsham nearby and all the diy stores are in Longwell Green as is the Leisure centre. Keynsham has a station, 2.2. Miles away, so it is easy to get in to Bath and Bristol. There is a beautiful eleventh century church, St Mary’s, in the village and there are many events held there. The Church Fete is a major village event – our dog recently won second prize in the best four legs competition! There is a Gardening Club, History Society, Flicks in the Sticks, Community Choir and a very active community in the village. The country walks round here are stunning, with river walks and walks along the Cotswold Way, and there is also the well-known cycle track which goes in to Bath.”
“110 Bath Road has been a lovely home in a brilliant location for us.”
