Seller insight:
123 High Street, which has the word ‘Mansion’, handsomely carved above the property’s heavy double door, is a majestically beautiful period home in the small Leicestershire town of Earl Shilton. This is one of those properties which doesn’t come on the market very often but when it does someone falls so in love with it that they struggle to ever give it up. Current owner Adriana has lived here since 2008 and has nothing but love for the place; ‘when I first drove through the gate I was greeted by the most incredible looking house i’d ever seen – it really was love at first sight. It’s like a fairytale house, complete with its own tower – it’s so unusual. Once you close the large wooden gates behind you, the high brick wall and mature trees make you feel as though you’re hidden away in your own world, ’ says Adriana.
Earl Shilton is a 15–minute drive from Leicester city with good access to the M69, M42, M1 and M40 motorways. It’s just a 45–minute drive to Birmingham International airport and 30–minutes to East Midlands airport.
Qualities of the house and garden: ‘It’s just so beautiful that I never get tired of It; wherever I am in the house I feel lucky and blessed to live in such a beautiful and magnificent property. It’s not overlooked, is totally private and feels like the perfect fairy tale house. The garden, which gets all–day sun, is big enough to feel grand yet not so big that it’s unmanageable – the pond with its fountain makes it feel very magical.’
Favourite room in the property: ‘It has to be the living room, with its grand fireplace. The fireplace, an original feature, is a copy of the front door – just one of the many unusual features which give the house its character.’
Favourite aspect of the grounds and surrounding area: ‘Sitting on a lounge chair just taking it all in – house, pond, trees, garden – feels very therapeutic. The garden has a massive old Oak tree which is as beautiful as the house and it’s wonderful to sit and look at these two majestic things together. It’s a very convenient place to live as you can get everywhere so quickly – from good local shops to larger towns and airports.’
Most memorable event: ‘My 40th birthday party which started in the splendid dining room – it’s such a wonderful place to entertain family and friends and is as equally good for children as it is adults. The garden is wonderful for entertaining too.’
What will you miss most? ‘Literally everything! I’ll miss the whole house as I have so much love for it. Even after living here for 11 years I still get butterflies when I drive through the gate. I’m moving back home to Slovakia.’
