Yaffles Rest is a much loved home which was designed and built in a traditional Sussex style for the current owner, just prior to the Millennium and it featured in 2002 in 'Home Building & Renovating' magazine. The house has a wonderful sense of space and takes full advantage of the stunning far reaching views.
Yaffles Rest takes its name from a 'yaffle' which is another term for a green woodpecker, and attached to the entrance porch is a wooden carved yaffle. From the welcoming entrance hall a part glazed door leads into the magnificent double-height drawing room/reception room which has a part glazed ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows and doors looking onto the view. The sitting room has a handsome open fireplace with marble surround. The generous kitchen/dining room is fitted with an extensive range of painted wooden units with granite work surfaces and a two-oven Aga. At the dining end there is a wide bay window. A fourth bedroom/study with a further open fireplace, a cloak/shower room, utility room and walk-in larder complete the ground floor accommodation.
On the first floor is a particularly generous galleried sitting area, a principal bedroom with a partly covered balcony, two further bedrooms and a bathroom.
The property is approached via a sweeping driveway which is bordered by mature silver birch and leads to the house where there is wide parking/turning area. Immediately adjacent to the house is a wide paved seating area which is bordered in part by a brick wall which includes a pretty water feature. Beyond the terrace the garden is laid principally to lawn, enclosed by mature hedging. From the garden there are spectacular views. About 0.5 acre, including the entrance drive.
Yaffles Rest lies about 2 miles from the picturesque village of Fletching, with its two public houses, shop/cafe, primary school and a church. The larger village of Newick is 4 miles to the south and provides shops and amenities for everyday needs.
Haywards Heath has a fast and frequent mainline train service to London (London Bridge/Victoria about 47 minutes). The A23/M23 is about 14 miles to the west providing fast access to Gatwick, the M25 and the national motorway network. The beautiful National Trust gardens at Sheffield Park are less than a mile from the property.
There is an excellent range of both state and private schools in the area including, Cumnor House, Great Walstead, Brambletye, Burgess Hill School for Girls, Ardingly, Hurstpierpoint and Brighton Colleges.
