This is a rare opportunity to buy a 1930s detached bungalow offering so much potential, with 3 or 4 beds, 3 reception rooms, Japanese sunken garden, period touches & more than a nod to the art deco movement, all this with stunning views in the heart of Mynydd Isa……then we really do have a NewHome4U
Come to our office for free Independent mortgage advice or just email or even ‘call': Do you like the photos? Well may be you would you like to view this home personally…..The good thing about NewHome4U is, we open 7 days a week and we’re physically in the office 4U just so that you can, ‘’like no other estate agent in Mold’
NewHome4u are pleased to bring to the market this genuinely unique family home. It can be viewed as being many different things to many different people, depending on their own personal take, but as a starting point for a program of modernisation, the versatility of its layout would allow even the most dormant of imaginations to take flight.
This splendid detached bungalow was built by the present owners father, who was an antiques dealer, and once inside you’ll understand why, it’s like stepping back in time to a gentler age when ladies were ladies and gentlemen were cads who twirled their moustaches in a suggestive manner, it really is fabulous! Having said this, you’ll probably want to change it and bring it more into the 21st century.
The huge wrought iron gates with their gold painted details open onto a broad drive towards that allows ample off road parking and leads to the the integral garage. There is however nothing so common as an internal access door from the garage into the home, the car should remain firmly outside, but one could easily be inserted if the need should arise, it even has the potential to become internal accommodation – although you would need the relevant planning to do this. A path curves its way between decorative stone walling, which divide the front garden up into sections, given over to ornamental gravel, patterned concrete and lawn, all punctuated with shrubs and various mature dwarf trees.
The front door, painted gold to give a first hint of the delights of the orient, opens into a wider than expected hallway. Indeed this feeling of space is one that carries on throughout the home with all the rooms being unexpectedly large, you’re almost waiting to bump into Dr Who in one of the rooms, as it really is deceptively spacious inside.
To our right is the sitting room, a bright and welcoming space with ample light via the double aspect windows, the rear ones of which consist of both windows and a set of French doors opening into a large sun room. There is a period ceramic fireplace housing a traditional gas fire, which offers two uses, one to top up the central heating and the other to act as a focal point.
The sun room has a big advantage over the more usual conservatory, namely a solid roof that is part of the structure of the home itself and a large radiator which, as part of the central heating system, keeps the room usable even in the depths of winter. The views from this room are spectacular, no need for a TV in here, you’ll never get bored of this channel.
Moving back into the hall and further into the home, we find the formal dining room. A good sized room for the purpose, this could also make a very successful study with its large window overlooking the open fields to the rear of the home. Again, there is a ceramic fireplace with another traditional gas fire as an addition or alternative to the gas central heating. In here the owner’s connections to the antique trade become ever more obvious in the fixtures and furnishings, to the extent that all it needs is David Dickinson to pop up from behind the settee and make an offer for some particular piece.
Unsurprisingly next to here is the kitchen. Again this is very much ‘of the period’. Square with a red quarry tiled floor, there are units to the back wall either side of the sink, but the rest of the room relies on free standing furniture, a small circular dining table providing the majority of the workspace for the cook. A glazed door leads to a walk-in pantry which provides generous storage space. This is one room which could benefit from updating, there’s even the possibility of knocking this room through into the dining room to make a very generous sized space for entertaining the many friends and family who will obviously be coming round to be entertained by you.
Across the hall is the first of the ground floor bedrooms. This large forward facing room has a set of fitted cupboards providing enough clothes storage to satisfy the most fashion conscious and freeing sufficient floor space to accommodate various substantial pieces of furniture, even including a settee, giving the feel of a hotel suite.
The second bedroom is next door to here and mirrors it in size and positioning of the fitted cupboards, once more offering very spacious and comfortable accommodation.
Adjacent to the kitchen we find the bathroom. This is very much a Marmite room; fans of the art deco style will be captivated by its jet black carpeting, glossy black wall tiles - which we must point out are stepped in history – and then the pink bathroom suite and intricate stained glass window. Altering the bathroom is frequently high up on the ‘to do’ list of many new buyers, especially when one is as old as this, even though it is perfectly usable.
Eventually the hall leads us into the utility room, housing the washing machine and drier. Two doors lead off from here, one to a large storage cupboard for all the ‘stuff’ that homes inevitably accumulate, the other to the separate downstairs lavatory, perfectly placed near the back door for when you, your guests or grandkids have been outside in the garden, it saves traipsing mud throughout the home.
A flight of stairs leads up to the landing, with a window looking out over the splendid views that this home affords and then to the first of the upper rooms. This is very big but its actual use is open to debate. Although offering massive storage cupboards, it is ideal for a bedroom however, there is no window for natural light. Should bedroom be your choice, a retro fitted Velux roof light would transform it into something splendid – you may need planning for this so please check first with the relevant authorities. All the upstairs rooms feature massive amount of storage in the eaves, accessed via Hobbit sized doors in the side walls.
Next is the remaining attic room. This is truly vast, big enough to make agoraphobics uncomfortable but could easily become a magnificent bedroom with far reaching views from its large window. A door in the far wall opens into another large room. This is something of a conundrum as while it is a big room, again it has no windows, though another Velux would easily address this, making a luxurious dressing room possible or even an en-suite.
Returning outside, we find a brick built store, doubling as a tool shed before entering the garden. A large area of patterned concrete provides a patio ideal for alfresco dining, while a decorative archway leads us down into the sunken Japanese style garden itself. This is centred round a large ornamental pond, with tiny bridges allowing passage from one side to the other via a central island sheltering beneath the canopy of a prettily shaped tree. Raised beds of zen gravel surround this and give a real oriental feel.

All in all this is a highly individual home as it stands, that can also be seen as an excellent starting point to make something less avant garde and put your own personal stamp upon. The gardens are interesting and attractive, while not being too demanding to keep up to scratch, the accommodation is spacious and versatile and while certain things may be seen as important to update such as the single glazed windows, in their current form they are so much in keeping with the character of the home that any updating may be a mistake. It’s all a matter of choice and taste…..But isn’t that what is always involved when making a home your own?
