Cleobury Mortimer - (pronounced Clibbery) The name derives from the great Norman family of Mortimer established here in 1086. Located under the shadow of the Clee Hills in South Shropshire, with some outstanding scenery.
Cleobury Mortimer's most striking landmark is the twisted spire of the Parish Church. Though classed as a town, the tranquil atmosphere is more akin to a village. The main street offers a mix of red-brick Georgian and older timbered buildings, with a scattering of shops, restaurants and pubs. Retaining much of its bygone charm and character.
It is believed to be the birthplace in the 14th century, of William Langland, the author of 'Piers Plowman'. There is a commemorative window in the local church in his honour.
John Betjeman described this South Shropshire town as ' A long airy curving street of brick Georgian houses and shops interspersed with genuine half-timber, the Rea brook making a splash at the bottom of the hill. The whole church seems to have slipped out of shape'.
Schooling is good with Cleobury Primary School and Lacon Childe High school awarded for its sports excellence. Indeed as stated the Primary school is a stones throw from the house.
This is a super family home offering great outside space too. Viewings will be necessary to appreciate.
