Just around the corner from the highly regarded Mold Alun High School and on the road to Nercwys we find Maes y Twr. A small development of modern detached homes built around a well equipped and very attractive children’s playground this is a family friendly environment, but one where the homes are sufficiently far away not to suffer unduly from noise. This particular home sits on the main road at the entrance to the development and is thus slightly separate from it.

Stepping through the gate into the colourful and quite sizeable front garden we approach the home with its front door set beneath a roofed porch that stretches across the front elevation and also covers the box bay window of the lounge.

Opening the semi glazed wooden front door puts us in the square hall with its laminate floor and where, to our left is the door into the downstairs cloakroom. This neat room contains all you really need, with space for coats, a wall mounted hand basin and lavatory.

The other door off the hall gives access to the large lounge. In here we have a continuation of the laminate flooring, while the box bay window gives a generous amount of natural light. Centrally positioned on the outside wall is an attractive wooden ‘fireplace’ housing a living flame effect electric fire. In a centrally heated home as new as this and fitted with all the latest insulation techniques, it is unnecessary for this to provide much in the way of warmth, but no one can deny the attractions of gazing into a real fire on a bitter night.

At the rear of the room is a double set of semi glazed doors opening into the kitchen/dining room. Off here we find a door to the ubiquitous ‘cupboard-under-the-stairs’ without which any home would disappear beneath a tidal wave of all the vital ‘stuff’. The rest of this area is pleasingly large, easily housing a substantial table for the family meals that a home such as this is sure to host. As for the kitchen, the large ‘U’ shaped layout has been well thought out and, with its integrated appliances provides a pleasant and workable space for Mrs Bridges to practice her culinary wizardry to the delight of all.

There is also a big set of French doors giving access to the lovely rear garden. This is given over to an area of decking immediately beside the house; perfect for al fresco dining or just relaxing as a stiff drink soothes away the day’s stresses. (Other relaxation methods are available, but not as effective.) The rest of the garden manages that difficult trick of appearing full and busy, while requiring minimal maintenance. There are raised beds surrounded by gravel pathways which lead eventually to the large wooden shed; a perfect spot for Dad to hide for a crafty fag after the children bet him he couldn’t give up…. A longer path leads to a gate in the rear fence which opens onto the parking area. This provides a minimum of two spaces per home, with adequate room for additional visitors.

Moving back indoors and up the stairs we come firstly to the rear facing bathroom. In here we see a resumption of the laminate flooring from downstairs, providing an attractive and easily cleaned surface. The walls are fully tiled and the suite comprises a pedestal hand basin, lavatory and bath but interestingly, no shower. However, thankfully this omission is catered for elsewhere.

Adjacent to here is the rear facing bedroom with its carpeted floor. This is a very attractive room, offering a generous space and pleasant views across the garden and playground beyond. Large enough to contain a huge free standing wardrobe along with the double bed and smaller items of furniture, this is comfortable accommodation.

Moving to the front of the home we find the smallest bedroom and this, it must be said, is an apt description. However although purely a single room, clever and innovative design has resulted in a very useable and comfortable space, somewhere any teenager would be happy.

Finally, we come to the master bedroom. Overlooking the front garden it is if anything larger than its twin to the rear and capitalises on this with extensive fitted wardrobes, cupboards and a vanity unit. In the rear wall another door reveals exactly why this is called the master; its own en-suite bathroom. Again featuring the wood laminate from the family bathroom, this offers a hand basin, lavatory and walk-in shower cubicle with an electric shower.

There is generous parking and the beauty of North Wales is on the doorstep making for an excellent family home that does what it says on the tin.
