Winker green history Established in early 19th century as woollen scribbling and dyeware mill, later a scribbling and fulling mill. Bought in 1824 by Eyres family, woollen merchants, and rebuilt as large-scale integrated private mill. Earliest surviving building, probably c1825-30, is four-storeyed workshop for hand spinning and handloom weaving. Large steam-powered brick mill (four-storeyed, twenty-five bays) of 1833 and 1836, replacing earlier mill destroyed by fire, has timber internal construction but fireproof willey house on ground floor.
