Property Description

Summary
Allen & Harris offer this period farm house situated in Cerney wick backing on the Cotswolds Sailing Club lake. Dating back to the 1600's This large stone build cottage accessed through a gated driveway is a must view.

Description
Bakers Farm House is one of the oldest buildings in Cerney Wick ( a Wick is old English for a dairy farm and Cerney refers to its location on the adjacent River Churn, a tributary of the Thames). Externally it is 300 to 400 years old and it has Grade II listed features. It became a family home when the farm land was sold for gravel and the adjacent stone barn and the farm buildings were demolished for three adjacent modern houses. It owes its shape and orientation within a plot of one third acre to this evolution.

Access to the property is now off Cerney Wick lane although formerly it was accessed through the adjacent farmyard from which it is now separated by a substantial and attractive Cotswold stone wall containing much stone from the old stone barn. The generous modern shingle driveway provides off-street parking for two/three cars and access to a double concrete garage. In the driveway is the 1700L bunded fuel oil tank. The driveway is guarded by a huge willow tree on its north side and complemented by a mature Liquidambar tree on the south and this provides autumn colour. There are several staddle stones in the garden to complement the historic links to farming.
