Located at the top of the hill in Gwernymynydd just on the periphery of Cadole, with Loggerheads Country Park, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just a few minutes walk away, this beautiful home is just waiting for a new owner to give it a fresh lease of life. Having been home to the present owner for many happy years, it’s now time for a new family to create some fresh memories here.
Driving down Hafod Drive towards Beechlea, away from the main Mold / Ruthin road, you’ll notice just how quiet and peaceful it is here but yet how accessible it is to get to Mold, Ruthin and the A55, all within just a few minutes drive, there’s even a bus stop close by which will whisk you to where you need to go.
At the top of Hafod Drive, just before the cattle grid (which is needed unless you want the local wildlife roaming around your front garden) you turn right onto the driveway where Beechlea is the second home or the one at the far end. Drive through the five bar gate and enter the grounds. If I lived here, i’d have an electric gate so that I could just turn up, zap the buzzer and ‘open sesame’, but that’s just me. The front gate is a little dated, as are parts of the home – but that’s the beauty of this place, you can make it just how you like......It's a blank canvas that you can call home when you've finished!
The driveway sweeps around to the left and runs up the side and to the rear of the home, where there’s an extra large detached garage waiting for your car at the end.
To the right of the drive when you enter through the front gate, is an area of woodland with its own secret garden entrance bordered by an old stone wall. This is a place that young children, be they yours or the grandchildren, can play in safety on their own, building camps or dens and climbing trees…..Just how we used to back in the day! If you don’t have kids or grandkids (lucky you) then this is a place where you can play for hours, building camps or dens…….Or just a great hideaway to sit back after a hard day at the office or golf course and sup on a bottle of beer or wine or just a good old fashioned cuppa.
There’s a generous front garden directly in front of this home, mostly laid to lawn for easy maintenance but with some mature shrubs and bushes to compliment it – but it could have so much more if you have the time to create a masterpiece. To the right of the garden is open farmland, where you can sit and count the sheep until your hearts content….I didn’t get past 20 before I had to be woken up!
To the left of the driveway, as you face the home when you drive in, there is another secret, sunken garden, where again you can sit and relax without the fear of anyone watching you. Bordered by tall mature hedges, this is a little slice of heaven where you can sit and read a book and soak up the sun rays in peace…..If sunbathing isn’t for you, maybe you could create a nice bowling green, or place a practice net for golf……options are endless.
Although this home does need some attention, you have to remember that you can’t change the location….And why would you want to, it’s perfect….But you can change the bricks and mortar! So i’m not being rude just honest, you’ll notice that the exterior walls surrounding the driveway and gardens need some attention, you can jet-wash them, which would bring them back to life or replace them and take this home into the 21st century….
Paving stones lead you on a path to the front steps which in turn take you to the front door – obviously, if you parked at the rear in the large double garage, you would then go in via the back door – but for writing purposes, we’re going through the front door today!
Double doors open into a rather generous entrance hallway, where this bungalow kind of splits itself in half, to the left we have the daytime living accommodation, and to the right the night-time sleeping accommodation – again if it was me, I swop this around and have the daytime accommodation on the right, so that you could take full advantage of the farmland views – but obviously this would come at a cost…..But how much more amazing would this home become. You would need to speak to a builder to see how feasible this would be – i’m only pointing out what i’d do – and as you’ll probably change the kitchen and bathroom anyway, it seems only sensible to change it around now rather than later on.
Beautiful parquet flooring greets your feet as you enter into this delightful, bright and spacious entrance hallway, the floor to ceiling windows in the doors and the windows either side allow light to flood in - just like Tetleys Tea does flavour.
The first room on the left of the hall as you walk in is the lounge, again it’s nice and bright due to the double aspect windows, a large window overlooks the front garden so you can sit and admire your handy work, regardless of the weather. Parquet flooring follows us into this room and then a beautiful 1950’s stone fireplace sits front and centre. Now, this is a working fireplace but could so easily accommodate a cosy log-burner for the long Welsh winter nights.
Back into the hallway and the gorgeous parquet flooring adds a touch of class as it continues into the next room which is the dining room. Perfectly placed as it’s nestled right next to the kitchen, it shows its age as today, most people would have knocked this room into one large kitchen / breakfast room. There’s a window overlooking the side aspect of the home and a sliding door (which really needs to go) leading into the kitchen.
This is a good sized room which has been slightly extended over time. There are plenty of floor and wall mounted storage units, all of which serve a purpose and can easily be used, although most people buying a new home would probably change them to add your own stamp on it. Work-surfaces cover four walls providing ample space for modern day electrical gadgets and space for food preparation. Double aspect windows offer views over the side and rear aspects of the home, a breakfast bar offers a place for a quick snack if the dining room felt to formal for breakfast. The kitchen has voids and plumbing for all of your everyday requirements, dishwasher, washing machine, boiler, oven, fridge….I think you know what goes in a kitchen. And finally, you have a double glazed door leading to the rear of the home and the extra large garage / workshop.
Ok, back to the hallway and then to the right hand side of the home. The first room you come to is the mater bedroom. A spacious double bedroom which offers a double aspect through the large picture windows over the front garden and the fields to the side. There are expensive (back in the day) fitted wardrobes but again, i’m sure you’ll change this to make it more your own.
A small inner hallway leads you to the rest of the nighttime accommodation, starting with bedroom two. Again it's a double bedroom, with a window that looks over the fields, there are fitted wardrobes in this room, utilising the most of this space.
The last bedroom has a floor to ceiling window overlooking the fields, a fitted wardrobe and offers enough room for a double bed if you needed one, but it’s currently being used as an office.
The shower room is the last room that we enter, with a recently fitted shower cubicle for ease of access, a toilet and wash hand basin with vanity unit below, floor to ceiling tiles, an attractive feature wood panel ceiling and lastly, a frosted window to bring light in from the rear of the home.
Outside at the rear is a very large double garage / workshop. Now it’s not so practical for the more modern day cars but is huge and can easily take two cars, it just would need to be adapted to get them both in at the same time.
*** Homes in a special location like this rarely come to the market, the next time you may be able to buy a home ‘like this’ could be in another 35 years time! Ok, so it may need some updating and re-jigging internally but if you look at this as a blank canvas and start to build your dream home, it’s a place you can be proud of and can grow into it over time………just imagine how happy you’ll be when it’s finished, just the way you like it’! ***
