From Minchinhampton proceed up West End into Windmill Road. At the junction on the Common turn left and immediately right to Amberley. Go down the hill and opposite the Amberley Inn take the second left, (not the school turning), signposted to Theescombe. At the subsequent junction, turn hard right back down the hill and follow this lane down the side of the valley and Longbranch will be found on the left, immediately after the entrance to a small farm.
Longbranch is unique, a clever re-working of an existing property to take full advantage of this wonderful site. A dramatic glass facade lets the light flood into the core of the house and for the panoramic westerly views to be truly appreciated, there is a broad terrace that runs along the front, a wonderful venue for dining al fresco in the better weather. The plan from the outset was to design a home with flexible living space which could be adapted as required. So as constituted, the front door leads to an entrance hall, a useful store room, shower room and what is currently one of the 5 bedrooms, but could equally well be a reception room. At an intermediate level is a sitting room with the master bedroom suite off and at the lower level a spectacular large kitchen with sliding doors out onto the illuminated terrace. The utility room and cloakroom are on one side the remaining 3 bedrooms and family bathroom in the opposite wing. Outside, the garden below the terrace has potential to be developed and there is off lane parking for two cars on the drive and a single garage.
Longbranch has a delightful rural setting overlooking a patchwork of small green fields flanked by ancient woodland close to the heart of Amberley, which itself is one of the most sought after locations within the Stroud Valleys. A welcoming community with a real sense of identity, Amberley has a thriving village school, church and two pubs while Minchinhampton Common which is adjacent, offers direct access to over 650 acres of natural countryside, in the care of the National Trust and free for anyone to roam and enjoy. Longbranch is between Minchinhampton and Nailsworth, very convenient to both and Stroud with its four major supermarkets, cinema, leisure centre and railway station. This part of Gloucestershire is within the apex of the M4 and M5 motorways so access to both is straightforward. London is normally under 2 hours, Bristol about 45 minutes and Gloucester/Cheltenham slightly less. By train there are regular services into London Padddington (about 93 minutes from Stroud). Good schools abound nearby including Beaudesert Park and Stroud High/Marling and there are three challenging golf courses at Minchinhampton, National Hunt racing at Cheltenham and Premier division rugby at Bath or Gloucester.
