A 1950's house extended by the current owners so that it now offers 3300 sq. Ft of accommodation, comprising four bedrooms, five reception rooms, three bathrooms, a double garage, gravel driveway and south facing gardens, country views front and rear, in the hamlet of Notton, 0.7 miles away from the charming Wiltshire village of Lacock.
The owner says: “It was the location which initially drew us to the house. It is in the country but under 4 miles from Chippenham station, with services to London in 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the historic and picturesque village of Lacock only a 10-minute walk away. We are lucky enough to take advantage of everything Lacock offers: The beautiful thirteenth century National Trust Abbey, three decent pubs, a bakery, post office, convenience store, and an excellent jeweller, Watlings – which I can personally recommend; but living here we don’t suffer from the many tourists and parking issues. The village has various fairs and a primary school rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Whitehall Garden Centre is five minutes’ walk away – a great place for coffee and cake, lots of activities for the children especially the outdoor ice rink at Christmas which is good fun. Georgian Bath is about 12 miles away.”
She continues: “Originally a three-bedroom bungalow built in 1953, we have converted the loft to create four bedrooms, with a family bathroom and two en-suites, by totally remodelling the whole property, it now feels completely different and makes the most of the plot. In the summer my favourite room is the dual aspect sitting room, with bi-fold doors which open out onto the south facing terrace, or around the corner on the west facing patio where we can sit and watch the sun go down. In the winter the kitchen/dining/family room is my favourite location – you can cosy up to the log burner and look out through the bifold doors over the garden watching the visiting wild life – we regularly have deer and hedgehogs in the garden. The kitchen is furnished with a range of cream coloured cabinets topped in either Wenge and granite work tops, a Siemens integrated hob, Dedietrich down draft extractor, Siemens oven and a steam oven, freestanding fridge and Bosch dishwasher. The hall, kitchen and family room have limestone travertine flooring with underfloor heating, and the dining room has engineered oak flooring. We managed to salvage the original floorboards for what is now the sitting room. Upstairs two of the bedrooms have Juliet balconies, and there is more travertine in the bathrooms all of which have underfloor heating. Both the en suites have showers and the family bathroom has a jacuzzi bath and twin basins.”
“Set well back from the road, outside there are five bar gates opening onto the gravelled driveway, providing plenty of parking. In addition to this there is a large integral double garage. The garden was very overgrown when we first arrived and had over thirty leylandii trees. We took them out and replanted mostly native trees so that now we have all year round colour and screening. There is a large, south facing terrace to the rear leading onto a large level lawn, mini orchard, a potting shed, two pergolas, barbeque area and a gazebo. On the west side is the original garage, which is used for storing the garden furniture or could be converted into an annex or office (stpp). The garden is incredibly private; we only ever draw the curtains or blinds to keep the sun out.”
“The house is very quiet and private. It is very adaptable – not too large for when it is just the two of us but easily coping when the hoards arrive; we have had many Easter Egg hunts, large barbeques and even a champagne reception here. This location is the best of both worlds, all the advantages of the country, but well served by Bath, Corsham or Chippenham all with good facilities close by, top schools and excellent communication links.”
