Ripon Grammar School is well known for its excellent education, and for sophisticated shopping Harrogate is a mere 10 miles away. Country sports include superior grouse moors, plus excellent shooting and hunting. London by rail takes under two hours, and the A1M motorway network is 8 miles away.

The gardens of Thorpe Lodge, which were opened for many years for the National Gardens Scheme, are a delight with many different facets to them.
