Hawick, the largest of the Border towns, with a population of over 14,000 lies on the banks of the River Teviot. The town is famous for its common riding, rugby and fine cashmere companies such as Hawick Cashmere, Johnstons of Elgin, Lyle & Scott, and Pringle of Scotland.

Follow the road through the gap in the buildings onto Slitrig Crescent and turn left onto Mill Path. Proceed up the hill and turn right onto Wellogate Brae.
Go up the hill and turn left into Braid Road. Take the first right turn and follow the private road up to the entrance of Gowanbank and follow the drive down to the house.

Coming from the South via the A7 proceed into Hawick via Buccleuch Road. On reaching the roundabout at Sandbed, take the second exit and follow the above directions.
