Description
Bitham Cottage is a most appealing detached thatched half-timbered cottage, with the main house dating from 1590, and a later contemporary 1990s addition which has provided an ample kitchen and utility room. The cottage, which is Grade II listed, has excellent ground floor accommodation, with well-proportioned rooms and notably good ceiling heights. The kitchen at the rear overlooks the garden, and is a large light room with contemporary tiling, attractive units and rose granite work surface. The two main reception rooms have big inglenook fireplaces, and the house generally retains many additional period features such as wide plank floors, heavy beams, flagged floors and small pane windows.
On the first floor are 4 bedrooms, 3 double and one single, with one ensuite, and a recently refurbished family bathroom.
The property is well presented, having been decorated in a tasteful palette of colours.
There is planning permission for a garden room to the East of the cottage. For further details see 19/00246/ful.
Outside
The lane to the cottage is a no through road and gives access to a gravel drive leading to a brick double garage. The drive provides ample parking for a number of vehicles. The cottage sits on a plot of approximately a third of an acre. The garden is enclosed by trees and hedging and is very private. The garden is a gardeners paradise. It is considered to be the most attractive garden in the village with colourful flower borders, traditional country hedging, lawns and brick paths. The large vegetable garden is very productive and also contains a large strawberry bed and fruits bushes.
