History of the Avenue
The Avenue of Oaks that runs for a mile from Roselands in the East to Chapel Row and then to Bucklebury House to the West, is perhaps the most celebrated area of Bucklebury Common. The inner row of Oaks was planted to celebrate Queen Elizabeth i’s visit to Bucklebury and the outer row was planted to commemorate Wellington’s victory
at Waterloo in 1815. New trees have been planted over the years. On The Avenue by Bradfield Southend, the Acorn posts celebrate the recent marriage of Kate Middleton to Prince William in 2011.
Little Roselands is approached down a gravel drive, through mature oak trees, and is well set back and screened from The Avenue providing natural privacy. The site occupies an elevated plot of just over 1 acre within mature grounds including a number of fruit trees. The house has been designed to nestle into a rural scene, overlooking a
wild flower meadow, abutting the National Trust land beyond.
