Living within the city walls provides us with such an easy lifestyle, we set foot out of our front door and within minutes we are in the high street. You can get everything you need without driving and one of the main reasons we decided to move into the centre of Canterbury was the brilliant, high speed links to London – it is so convenient to be able to walk to either station when we are commuting.
We love the front of our house and how it is positioned with views of Almshouses’ gardens, so we never feel overlooked or enclosed. We have spent a lot of time making this into a lovely family home, keeping the original Georgian elements while blending in modern spaces. There is a welcoming flow from our open-plan kitchen/dining area, which leads to our courtyard – it is a space where we spend a lot of time together but can still do our own thing. Our upstairs living room gives us somewhere to relax while the children are in their playroom, which was previously a bedroom – there is plenty of versatile space here. We also benefit from an allocated parking space and an unobvious integrated bike store. Our small suntrap garden is a lovely oasis with a sitting area that attracts plenty of wildlife through the planters. It is rare to find spaces like these in a townhouse.
Canterbury is a vibrant place to live, with all the historical links and a fantastic social atmosphere, with the Marlowe Theatre, cinemas, all the shopping you could need and an abundance of places for dining out.
We are going to miss everything about our home and the convenience of the location. This has been such a lovely place to live for the last five years and we have made some wonderful memories here.
