An attractive location - Escape to the country!
Somerby Drive is on the higher ground in the Western region of the village. The village is attractive and unspoilt, with undulating approaches from Epworth and Haxey.
The location is tranquil and pleasant, having the advantages of the countryside without being remote. Nearby, a beautiful country walk, towards High Burnham.
South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire are all easily accessible
New, open plan, with a little more space
Somerby Drive is a development adjacent to St Martins School playing field. The design is an open plan, adopted, block-paved road with a little more space than usual.
Low density, not overlooked
The development is relatively low density and is surrounded on three sides by school field, farmers field and gardens. The advantage of not being overlooked to the rear is significant and very difficult to find nowadays. The front gardens are open plan and combined with a sensible planting scheme. This enhances the feeling of space.
History
The parish church of St Martin dates from the 14th and 15th century. The church was built within the earthworks of Kinnard's Castle (destroyed in the early 1170's by Geoffrey Plantagenet). The distinctive archway approaching St Martin's was erected in 1859. There are attractive scenic trails accessible to all at the Castle Local Nature Reserve adjacent to the Church. The village was referred to as Ostone in 1086. The modern name follows from the ferry service which ceased in the early 1940's
No major highway traffic to spoil your enjoyment
The village is not a through route, consequently it does not suffer from the blight of heavy traffic endured by so many other rural settlements.
Schools
Excellent schools and colleges in the area, South Axholme Academy (Epworth) and John Leggott Sixth Form College are rated amongst the highest in the country. New College Doncaster at Auckley is new and another potential contender. Being situated near to St Martins School is the ultimate in convenience for parents with Primary school children.
Don’t forget - Services are provided in the service strip
A very expensive factor frequently overlooked, is that plots without services incur very large primary installation costs. In Somerby Drive, the plots have mains drainage at the frontage for each plot. Mains water and electricity are installed in the service strip.
