Description

Myles House is one of those hidden Cotswold treasures that can still be found by the discerning purchaser. An unpretentious and welcoming family home, the history of Myles House spans more than 300 years, dating back to circa 1705. The attractive exterior is matched by an equally delightful interior. Grade II listed, much of the house reflects its early origins. But what is truly fascinating is the Arts and Crafts influence (circa 1913) giving the house a unique style, showcased in the spectacular galleried entrance hall. The house comprises four reception rooms, including a library, an east facing kitchen linked to the breakfast room, utility room and cloakroom with shower. The four main bedrooms are located on the first floor with an ensuite master bedroom plus two further bathrooms. Three more bedrooms can be found on the top floor plus a useful attic room. A fine set of gates lead to a gravel driveway with double garage. The classic English country garden is largely level, extending to approximately one acre with beautifully kept lawns, topiary yew hedges, well stocked borders and vegetable patch. There is a range of useful outbuildings.

Location

Myles House is situated in one of the less well known parts of the Cotswolds in the tiny hamlet of Ashmead, immediately north of Bristol on the edge of the Berkeley Vale. This is a rural area with a slower pace of life, with peaceful country lanes, yet surprisingly accessible. Farming predominates (there is a dairy farm opposite the end of the drive) and the local topography is one of gently rolling countryside, with the Cotswold escarpment as a dramatic backdrop. Commuting to Bristol is straightforward, either down the M5/A38 or by train from nearby Cam/Dursley Station, with regular services into Bristol from just over 30 minutes and connections to Gloucester in the opposite direction. London is approximately 2 hours by road with easy access to the M4 and by train from Stonehouse station (about 5 miles) and approximately 90 minutes into London Paddington. Dursley is the nearest market town for local shopping with a Sainsburys and there are additonal supermarkets in nearby Stroud. Gloucestershire has excellent schools in both the state and private sectors, including Stroud High and Marling grammar schools and Beaudesert Park, Wycliffe College and Westonbirt, all within reach of Myles House. The surrounding countryside is a great source of walks with a network of public footpaths, while the lanes are fun to explore by bike; there is also an excellent choice of golf courses locally - championship standard at Minchinhampton.

General Information

Myles House is Listed Grade II
