A gravel drive sweeps past mown lawns and opens to form a wide forecourt in front of Bremeridge Manor. A tall gabled open porch makes a welcoming entrance with pleasing honey coloured stone and rendered elevations under a tiled roof combining with regular sash windows to make a pretty and appealing façade. Believed to date from the 13th century the property is Listed Grade II. The entrance from the porch is through a handsome, studded oak door thought to be pre 17th century. The accommodation is well presented and ideal for family living having been greatly improved by the present owner during 17 years of ownership. Fine architectural details include fireplaces, beamed ceilings, shutters, stone and Victorian tiled floors. There are delightful views of the gardens and neighbouring countryside from all rooms with the master bedroom benefitting from a triple aspects.
The kitchen breakfast room is very much the central hub of the house with a limestone floor and windows to both the east and west elevations and a good range of cabinets with integrated nef appliances and a two oven oil fired Aga. A neighbouring very spacious utility/boot room at the rear of the house provides additional space for domestic appliances and storage. There are large reception rooms with the drawing room and the dining room both having fireplaces and French doors opening to the garden. In addition there is a sitting room and a study. Both rooms have a double aspect with the sitting room offering an open fire and extensive bookshelves and the study having a door to the rear garden.
The first floor provides bedrooms and bathrooms. The luxury master bedroom suite has a dressing room (which could become a fifth bedroom) and a bathroom. The guest suite has fitted wardrobes and an ensuite bathroom. There are two further bedrooms and a family bathroom.
To the rear of the house is a large detached garage with a useful room over. Accessed by a ladder this room has potential for a variety of uses.
History
The Manor of Bremeridge was acquired by the monastic order of the Bonhommes of Edington in 1366. Upon the dissolution of the monasteries the property passed to James Blount (Lord Mountjoy) who sold it to Queen Elizabeth 1st in 1574. In 1609 King James 1st sold the estate away from crown. In the 19th century a horde of 32 gold coins (Nobles dating from the 14th century) was discovered in the grounds, undisturbed for 500 years.
Bremeridge Manor is set in open countryside between the village of Dilton Marsh and the hamlet of Brokerswood, to the west of Westbury. Dilton Marsh provides a village shop, junior school, church and a public house. Westbury meets all day to day needs and has a mainline railway station with regular services to London (Paddington from 80 minutes) and Devon and Cornwall. The cities of Bath to the north and Salisbury to the south are popular destinations and provide a wide range of
sporting, leisure and educational facilities.
A long drive leads from the lane to a five bar gate and the gravel drive infront of the house. It continues past the house to provide access to the garage and an area of hardstanding to the western rear of the property. The established gardens have open lawns with trees and shrubs and deep, well stocked borders flower and herbaceous borders. The lawns to the east are bordered by a clipped yew hedge. Beyond there is a water meadow beyond with a brook fed duck pond and bordered by willow and hazelnut trees. As you approach the house there is a greenhouse and two garden sheds. A large paved terrace borders the drawing room and provides a pleasant seating area. The rear garden is enclosed by a high wall. There is a
small lawned area, featuring an ancient well, and hardstanding in front of the garage with electric gate access. The drive is owned by Bremeridge Manor with the first portion providing a right of way for neighbouring properties (two cottages and a barn conversion) which previously formed part of the original farmstead.
