The surrounding towns and villages all have a good number of friendly local pubs and restaurants. A Sainsbury’s Express is at Inverkip which is about 3 miles to the north.

The Braehead and Silverburn retail villages near to Glasgow are around 29 miles, where one can find a tremendous range of high street multiples together with M&S and Sainsbury anchor stores.

Glasgow city at 36 miles has all the cultural, higher educational and leisure services normally associated with a major international centre.

Primary schooling is available in Skelmorlie with secondary at Largs Academy. A number of the children in the district travel the 16 miles to the independent school St Columba’s in Kilmacolm to which there is a school bus service that takes about 30 minutes. Further independent schooling is available in Glasgow.

The area is well served with leisure amenities. Skelmorlie has a tennis club, a bowling club, as well as a challenging golf course and a well used community centre and library.

The Firth of Clyde offers some of the most scenic coastal sailing in the United Kingdom. The Learig is situated in between two major marinas, Largs and Inverkip.

Main line rail services run from both Wemyss Bay and Largs with services to Glasgow city, whilst Glasgow and Prestwick airports are 26 miles and 32 miles distant respectively.

For the outdoor enthusiast there is a wealth of opportunities, with a range of golf courses locally, including Skelmorlie, Largs, Prestwick, Troon and Turnberry.

Continue on the A78 for 11.6 miles passing through Inverkip and Wemyss Bay and Skelmorlie. Continue through Skelmorlie along shore road. Leave the village and when Skelmorlie Castle is located on the left hand side, turn left onto the minor road towards the Castle.
After 0.1 miles, turn right onto lane, The Learig is the first property on the right hand side.
