The History...

The present mansion house at Bedales was built in 1845 on the site of an earlier house dating back to 16th century. It is believed to have been built by Stephen Lowdell, a Sussex worthy who owned around 250 acres of land in the Linfield Parish. In 1896 the house was let to Bedales School and it is assumed that Bodkins End was built as the former Headmasters house. In 1952 the house and 16 acres was sold to a speculative builder who gained consent to divide the house and outbuildings into eight houses and the property took its current form.
