Description
Quarndon Hill is a hugely impressive property that presents as a substantial late Victorian House with Tudor influences. The property actually dates from the early 1700s and was known as Hill Cottage. The original cottage is still evidenced by the stone work on the west elevation. Extensive remodelling took place in the Victorian and Edwardian periods to create a hugely impressive property of great character. By 1905, the residential elements of Quarndon Hill were broadly established and since then this substantial country house has been owned by just two families. The property is reported to be of both Quarndon brick and Butterley brick beneath tiled roofs. The projecting bays show timber framing with infill in the Tudor vernacular. A significant change to the property was carried out just after the War, when the badminton court was constructed.

Internally, this grandly proportioned house shows a plethora of delightful architectural features with heavy mahogany doors and a carved mahogany principal staircase which is under a full height vaulted ceiling with a glorious stained-glass window. There are wonderful plaster mouldings, some very impressive chimney pieces and stripped and polished floors. The principal reception rooms and bedrooms have open views over the gardens and to the countryside beyond and are flooded with natural light. The main accommodation extends over two floors but with good attic rooms and a cellar. This beautifully proportioned house is perfectly suited to family life and entertaining.

Accommodation
From the main entrance flanked by stone pillars, the front door leads into the reception hall which has doors to the drawing room, sitting room and dining room. All are very impressive formal rooms, with high ceilings, polished timber floors and tall windows. Each room has a complementary but individual character.

The panelled morning room has deep windows looking south over the gardens and an attractive fireplace which is integrated into the timber panelling. The ceiling shows intricate mouldings. The drawing room, situated on the south east corner of the house is flooded with natural light from a deep bay window. It shows lovely plaster mouldings and an impressive Adams style chimney piece with fluted pillars, gesso mouldings and over mantle. The grandly proportioned dining room orientated to the east, has a splendid mahogany chimney piece, built in cupboards with bookcases and a wonderful view over the gardens. In the breakfast kitchen is a range of base and wall units, Belfast sink, French doors opening to the gardens, and a further door leading into the boot room. Close to the kitchen is a well-equipped laundry room. From the laundry room there is access through to a lobby, which has a door leading outside. The two integrated flats, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor, are accessed from this lobby. The staircase serving the flat also provides a secondary staircase to the first floor of the house. The grand principal staircase leads to the first floor and six spacious double bedrooms (two interconnecting) as well as four bathrooms. The master bedroom can utilise one of the bedrooms as a dressing room and connects to a bathroom to form an impressive master suite. There is a en suite bathroom in the guest room.
