History

Limpley Stoke Hotel was once a Victorian Hydrotherapy treatment centre, the pleasure gardens reached down Cliffe Drive giving patients views across the valley. After the 2nd world war plots of land (the pleasure gardens along the drive) were sold off for the building of small houses. 6 Cliffe Drive was built in the mid 1950's on one of these prime plots by a local architect Arthur William Hind (of Bath architects Gerrard Taylor and Hind). He built the current modern house known as Unicorn House on the plot, the house was built of Bath Stone with an innovative copper roof and modern partly open plan ground floor plan. As pine was in short supply the staircase and parquet flooring were made of oak. The house originally had steel Crittall windows and was designed with large picture windows to take in view across the valley from upstairs, and full length windows along the full elevation to the rear of the property which were designed to allow for views towards the garden.

Around the end of the 20th century the house was updated with new windows and doors, and the additional ground floor bedroom may have been added at this time, certainly there were changes to the kitchen and a viewing platform added at the top of the garden.

The house has current planning permission to extend to a 5 bedroomed, three reception room property.
